Na otoku Hvaru odlučili su se za unaprjeđenje ruralnog turizma kroz razvoj etno-eko sela, a u taj projekt uključili su se svi gradovi i općine na tom otoku. Splitsko-dalmatinska županija taj će projekt predložiti za financiranje u sklopu europskoga IPA programa jadranske prekogranične suradnje. Programu obnove starih napuštenih kamenih sela i njihovu integriranju u jedinstvenu otočku turističku ponudu, osim grada Hvara, koji obnavlja Velo i Malo Grablje, Brusje i Zoraće, Staroga Grada s obnovom Male Rudine, te Jelse, koja je otišla najdalje na području Humca, pridružio se i Sućuraj. Valja podsjetiti kako je upravo otok Hvar bio domaćin prve nacionalne konferencije o ruralnom turizmu 2007. godine na kojoj je, na prijedlog Splitsko-dalmatinske županije usvojena Deklaracija s uvrštenom klauzulom o obnovi eko-etno sela. Potpisalo ju je 16 hrvatskih županija a očekuje se da će je uskoro potvrditi i u Hrvatskom saboru.
