The special hospital for medical rehabilitation Varaždinske Toplice, should become one of the leading centres of health tourism in the southeast Europe region with the reconstruction of the existing capacities and the construction of new hotel and medical facilities. In the Međimurje borough of Draškovec, close to Prelog, the construction of the long awaited project Terme Hortus Croatiae or the Croatian Garden will begin at the end of this year. This is a health and tourism project which should include the construction of an attractive spa-wellness facility and golf resort. The construction of a new health and tourist resort should soon begin in Stubičke Toplice (Stubičke Spa), and the investment value is estimated at 105 million Euros. The complex will be spread across about 125,000 square meters where three hotels will be built, one five and two four-star hotels, as well as a complex of thermal spas, wellness zones and a large aqua park. Croatia is a country with a rich tradition in health tourism that began at the end of 19th and the beginning of 20th century. The first locations at which health tourism developed were spas with medicinal waters, sea zones with a favourable climate and medicinal mud baths. Tradition, natural heritage, possibilities for an active vacation and a rich culinary offering are all the basis for the tourist offering of Baranja, a region on the eastern end of Croatia.
